Western Railroad Discussion > Quad Cities Weekend 9/25 to 9/27Date: 09/28/26 16:55 Quad Cities Weekend 9/25 to 9/27 Author: MILW86A I went over to the Quad Cities this weekend to ride RRHMA Liberty Rocket on Saturday. Last year I did the Illinois and this year would do the Iowa side. I took Friday off and got some CPKC action to start with
First two photos are at Washington, IA. Train 576 was having some DPU issues so the DS threw him in the siding to get a late Train 180 around him. Date: 09/28/26 16:57 Re: Quad Cities Weekend 9/25 to 9/27 Author: MILW86A I passed on Train 280 in Muscatine so I could get this 252 train there in downtown Davenport. The DPU in the 106 position was what I was after.
Date: 09/28/26 17:00 Re: Quad Cities Weekend 9/25 to 9/27 Author: MILW86A After that was the IAIS 1300 job from Silvis with a transfer to the CPKC at West Davenport. I got him on once was the old Golden State main, which now the connector between the IAIS and CPKC.
A pair of clean SD38-2s on this day. I can handle that. Date: 09/28/26 17:02 Re: Quad Cities Weekend 9/25 to 9/27 Author: MILW86A Up next was CPKC Train 253 at Marquette St in Davenport. This is also known as CP 193 on the Davenport Sub as the CTC begins here. A nice find was the tank car! I can take that too! Train was 1x1 with a pair of Belles.
Date: 09/28/26 17:06 Re: Quad Cities Weekend 9/25 to 9/27 Author: MILW86A I then ventured south of Nahant to CP 198 at Linwood. Here we get the inbound 261 train running on the "slow" main. This was at one time joint track with the RI and MILW with the latter having trackage rights. 2 tracks all the way from West Davenport to Culver Tower in Muscatine. Two remain today down to Montpieler, single from there then the old EB is now the siding for Heinz on the north side of Muscatine.
Date: 09/28/26 17:09 Re: Quad Cities Weekend 9/25 to 9/27 Author: MILW86A Up next is the 252 again after doing work at Nahant. 1st photo is at Buffalo Iowa the last two at the north end of Heinz siding where he would meet the 375
Date: 09/28/26 17:10 Re: Quad Cities Weekend 9/25 to 9/27 Author: MILW86A 375 would be my last train of the day. They gave up the DPU to 576 at Linby so just a one unit wonder here. First photo at Heinz second at Buffalo. That would be it for Friday
Date: 09/28/26 17:14 Re: Quad Cities Weekend 9/25 to 9/27 Author: MILW86A Saturday was the ride on the Liberty Rocket. Andy pretty much covered it in his post on the passenger board. It was a great trip and got to see the 156 again. I saw that engine come thru my hometown of Marion, Iowa back around 1975. 6936 photo is from West Liberty. 3rd photo is approaching Melrose Ave where the old Hawkeye Express platform was at right by the Mecca of College Football, Kinnick Stadium.

1st up is IAIS CRSI coming into Silvis yard. Then the Rocket Special backs onto the main. IAIS 510 and RRHMA 537 for power. You can see the DPU smoking it up in the 1st photo. Of course its a GE!

Al Date: 09/28/26 22:41 Re: Quad Cities Weekend 9/25 to 9/27 Author: coach It appears that CPKC runs shorter trains, and single units on the front end, with single DPU's on the rear. I'm only guessing here, but if true, that's got to help the dispatchers alot when it comes to keeping all the trains moving. No PSR monsters, I hope.
