Here's a shot of the rail inside Tunnel 3 exiting toward Tunnel 4. The force of the Tehachapi Earthquake of July 21, 1952 actually lifted the tunnel as the track was buckling causing the tunnel wall to land on top of the track. Tunnels 3 through 6 were heavily damaged or destroyed during that event. Magnitude of the quake was 7.7. Photo courtesy Southern Pacific.
