Heres the weekly pix I took this afternoon. Looks like the forms are going up for another column (that makes two total). Aside from the re-bar ties being completed on another column, Doesnt look like much has been done this week. The crane has also been removed.

Is this a replacement bridge or double tracking projest?

This bridge is in Santa Ana, California. There is a short segment (a mile or so) that is being double tracked, and this is the only bridge being constructed. This is on the BNSF line between Los Angeles and San Diego.

Note - The river bed is dry almost all the time, and even when we have a rainstorm, the creek hardly qualifies for the name. However, every 10 years or so, we get a huge rainstorm that does turn this into a big and fast flowing creek. Thus, this bridge had to be designed for a big rainstorm.

In 1969 the creek ran bank to bank for almost three weeks. There was a small waterfall that uncovered the old Santiago Street dip before that bridge was built and a fifteen foot waterfall under the Glassell Street bridge. The Santa Fe built their bridge to withstand a 500 year flood.

I noticed that the new bridge, for the center column under construction, it looks like it will be extended under the current span. I wonder if they decided to add some strength to the existing bridge.

I wonder if anyone has pictures of the creek when it was flooded back in 1969.

A few yards to the west there is a large sign posted by Metrolink. When I was there a couple of weeks ago there was no specific name to the bridge project itself.

Repeating what spken asked...do you know if this is part of a double-tracking project? If so it would require some track and road re-configurations north and south of the bridge.

Yes, its part of a double tracking effort. It extends from La Veta Ave in Orange down to 17th St in Santa Ana

I just rode the Surfliner past this area this afternoon. There are several stacks of new wooden ties on the east sidewalk of Lincoln Ave., and there are several rails in the area (both north and south of the bridge location)

I wonder if someone knows when they will start laying the new track.
