During the presentation of Don Olson's film of vintage Santa Fe scenes, I had a startling moment. This was referred to as "historical" footage and one scene depicted some small parts of the "Last Run of a PA" operated by PLA in 1967. Very nice stuff until I saw myself walking into the scene with my black rimmed glasses and carrying my old leather camera bag. I may have been only 20 years old at the time but seeing ones self in "historical" films is somewhat disconcerting. Damn I can't be that old!

At one point, Vic Neves mentioned the first Winterail in 1978. It occurred to me that I was 7 years old when the first one was held.

Of course, mentioning that to Vic bought me a pained look!

I was 49 in 1978...still going!!!

Just as sobering is the thought that in a few years there will be guys on Trainorders who weren't even born in the 20th century!

Tony, you're about the same age as my parents... ;)

I was 36 in 1978 . . . the same age my son is now. Where did the years go? :)

I was 41--my son is 46 as I write. My "baby" twin daughters will be 41 in May. As the great William Bendix used to say on the Life of Riley, " what a revoltin' development THIS is!!!" :-)
But how fortunate we all are to be here and yakking about it---hey, I'm even sitting in Charleston SC right now, having flown from SFO this morning. Took Tommy the Rocket DeLa Rosa, retired Amtrak engineer, aged 85, to dinner last night--------we should all look so great!! particularly since he battled colon cancer so successfully in the past 3 years. Hang in there, ALL OF US!!!

I was, and remain 39 ....except for Social Security and medicare purposes.
