Just a Coat of Paint
Author: CT97

After railfanning Cajon and San Timeteo yesterday a question came into my mind about UP

With all the Re-Numberings and re-Painting that they have done,,wouldn`t it have been simpler to just leave the "Merger Acquired" locomotives of both the CNW and SP in their prospective paint and Numbers?

This could leave room for New Locomotive Acquitions without having to have re-numbered

After all,,you still see SP,CNW, SSW,etc painted boxcars and such all over the place.

If anything, they could have left the stuff alone except for adding a "Subsidiary of Union Pacific" decal placed somewhere.

(This thought came about after seeing Unpaced unaltered CNW C40-8 at Colton Station)

Just a Question

I think 'subsidiary of' is a legal term that indicates that a corporate entity exists. For example, SAB-Miller is a part of Altria and so is Kraft Foods; the brands are still in existance. the rails that were swollowed up by UP are no longer in existance as an operating subdivision of UP.
