colorful day in Louisiana - 20 paint schemes?
Author: tigerrails

This past Saturday I spent a whole day railfanning. After the first few pictures, I had an idea it was going to be a colorful day. The sun didn't alway cooperate but the railroads did.

Just for fun, here are 20 different paint schemes (unless you count some more).

The first two: UP 7908, UPY 106 (Grey unit) and UP 3390 switching in the UP Livonia yard.

Two more with CEFX in blue and CEFX in ex BNSF orange. I can never get this right but I think this is the H1 paint scheme:

CEFX 3182, UP 3515, UP 3413, UP 3155 and CEFX 7088 lead eastbound train toward out of the Livonia yard on the line to Baton Rouge.

This really isn't a good shot but since it has four more paint schemes I'll include it.

AKDN 4106 (in CN paint), AKDN 8100 (in CP paint), AKDN 1055 (blue SILX paint?) and AKDN 701 (actually in AKDN paint). These were all sitting in the Acadiana yard in Opelousas, LA.

Two more here. That makes 9 and 10. These three were switching in BNSF's Lafayette, LA yard.

BNSF 6900 (SantaFe blue/yellow), UP 8599 (RioGrande patch job), and BNSF 6730 (SantaFe blue/yellow)

OK number eleven is L&D 1850 "Evangeline". This is sitting on the L&D track next to the BNSF main in New Iberia, LA.

And number 12. This is cheating a little. It's still the Genesee & Wyoming orange paint scheme, but this one is actually lettered for parent company G&W.

1513 is sitting at the L&D shops about a mile off the BNSF main in New Iberia, LA.

We find paint scheme 16 (BNSF H2?), 17 (BNSF warbonnet) and 18 KCS grey on this westbound train waiting at the west end of the Schriever, LA yard.

BNSF 5443, BNSF 139 (red/silver), KCS 2033, BNSF 4790

Like the first shot of the day, paint scheme 19 is across a sugar cane field. This one just north of the BNSF Schriever junction on L&D. L&D 13 (ex Mountain Laurel) sits with several cars to interchange with BNSF.

Ooops. Forgot the image. Lets try another.

This is number 20 and the last one. I think this is AKDN 1503. Ex CNW paint? It was 7:00 pm and trying to rain. I'll have to go back to Donnaldsonville, LA and try this one again.

This is the L&D (ex Mountain Laurel) image. That was scheme number 19. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

I, for one, enjoy the pictures, since I run trains into Livonia. Interesting for a huge hump yard to be in the middle of a big cornfield, isn't it?

Actually its former Alton & Southern, though the scheme and logo was very similar to the CNW. Thats a rather colorful day, can't say I've seen that many paintschemes in one day.

The Alton & Southern was 50:50 owned by the Missouri Pacific and the C&NW, hence the logo which was based on the Mopac buzzsaw inside the C&NW "ball and bar". The corporate colors were C&NW traditional yellow and Mopac dark blue.

Bryan and greendot,

Thanks for the Alton & Southern information! I see in my roster book that Alton & Southern still exists. Is this the same road? Are they on their own now or maybe owned by UP?

Thanks again,
Mike

Red,

Glad you enjoyed the pictures. I was surprised the first time I saw the Livonia yard. If I can make myself get out there early in the morning, the sun is right for some decent pictures. Another surprise in Livonia are the chocolate malts at Best Burger. Great on a hot day.

Alton & Southern is now owned by the UP but still has their own identity and work force.
