Here's another one from this last Feb. at the Nevada Northern, this one of No. 40 and train reflecting in a pond along Steptoe Creek. Date: 03/13/06 17:45 No, no polarizer but....... Author: rcfarewell I shot it a half stop under using Provia 100F. It looks "better" but not as saturated if one takes P-shop and lightens it a bit, thence ups the contrast. I kind of liked it with the deep blue sky, though.

It was great traveling with you guys. Learned a lot! Here's a shot of #93 at the same place. Not a perfect reflection either, but a great location anyway. No filters, no fooling! I just hope we have water again next year! Also, maybe we can do better on the Keystone branch. The morning clouds didn't help and the afternoon run was too late for the tunnel exit shot. How'd you do that??? That was soooooo cool to see that come out of the image!!!!! I've got P-shop Elements on my machine here, but have just begun to scratch the surface as to what it can do. Could you give me a hint as to what capabilities to snoop that you used to accomplish the water clean-up? Any help would be most appreciated! Reduced the constrast and brightness slightly, and added a very slight "ripple" effect in the filter section.

Now that's a clever way to do it! I figured there was a P-shop filter or smoothing routine or some such that would take the ripples out of the water. I never thought to invert the original train and turn it into a refelction.........thanks much for helping to open my eyes to other possibilities, ie to "think" for a change!! Again, thanks!!! It was run by the Nevada Northern as their Winter Photographer's Weekend(s). It was advertised in Railfan, so I was sort of surprised that we didn't have more people attend. Also, the Heber Valley RR ran two days, mid week, between the two Nevada Northern Weekends. I'd highly recommend doing both. You would be supporting two great railroads and getting some fantastic photos to boot, plus you'd meet a lot of fun people! Watch for their ads next year, or email the railroad and get on their list.
