Steam & Excursion > GN #1246 - 2-8-0 For SaleDate: 04/24/06 16:26 GN #1246 - 2-8-0 For Sale Author: LOGGERHOGGER We are thining the steam collection of the Great Western Railroad Museum.
First of the locomotives to be sold is Great Northern 2-8-0 #1246. She was displayed in Seattle, WA from 1958 until the early 1980's when she was shipped to Oregon. These photos show her as she appears today at Merrill, OR. The sale price is $35,000. She is on a rail spur so shipment is relatively easy. Serious inquiries should be sent to: Martin E. Sierra 36, Santa Maria Valley 100?

You lost me on this one. Yes, I represent Fred. Can you explain? Martin Date: 04/25/06 01:36 Re: GN #1246 - 2-8-0 For Sale Author: potb101 I'll bite and say that 23 days ago was April 1?

Martin Date: 04/25/06 07:35 Re: GN #1246 - 2-8-0 For Sale Author: drew1946 From the photos, it would seem to me that the decimal point is about three spaces to far to the right.

The price is actually almost dead on given thats what the locomotive would fetch as scrap steel. Sometimes, although not always the best thing, you have to look beyond the fact that its a steam engine. With enough space, etc. the locomomotive could be properly stuffed and mounted for about $5,000. Dont calculate the cost of taking off the asbestos lagging and re-jacketing the locomotive, even if it would be going for static display somewhere. From my experience anyway, that price is fair considering the cirumstances of the sale. -John drew1946 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > From the photos, it would seem to me that the > decimal point is about three spaces to far to the > right. Having bought, sold and appraised over 2 dozen steam locomotives in the last 25 years, I can assure you this is a very fair price. The only drawback for an engine like this is it's relatively large size. She is actually in restartable shape, though she will need extensive firebox work. Her best use in the foreseeable future is as a display in a town with GN heritage. We have been contacted by several interested towns so far. Fortunately she is on a rail spur so her shipment can be made in a cost effective manner. Martin Date: 04/25/06 16:05 Re: GN #1246 - 2-8-0 For Sale Author: nycman Martin, yeah, it was a (not good) April Fool reference. I just can't imagine Fred parting with any of his rolling stock.

We actually have already sold several peices. Never say never. Martin Date: 04/27/06 12:26 Re: GN #1246 - 2-8-0 For Sale Author: NRE973 I think the best home for this piece would be the Duluth museum. They have everything except a GN steamer, and a small one would be good.
Date: 04/27/06 12:33 Re: GN #1246 - 2-8-0 For Sale Author: lynnpowell What are the "other pieces" that have been sold?
Date: 04/27/06 16:25 Re: GN #1246 - 2-8-0 For Sale Author: LOGGERHOGGER Most of the other pieces are cars.
Martin Date: 04/27/06 19:33 Re: GN #1246 - 2-8-0 For Sale Author: drew1946 looks like the same old bunch of junk is still sitting outside of town on the McCloud as of this morning.
