Lost engine at Roanoke
Author: Sick_Puppy

While down at the Virginia Transportation Museum in Roanoke today, I spotted 1151 at the south end of the Museum. Better than down in the scrap yard where it rested for many years. Tom

The locomotive has no more parts than what is on it now. At one time the locomotives were in the process of being scraped. I never did hear the story why the scrapping stopped. Does anybody know the rest of the story.

Apparently the tender is in better shape than the engine.

A lot of parts are missing and they said it will be cosmeticaly restored. Isn't this the only example of this class still in existence? Tom

Remember, you can always make the parts new, if you have the $$$$.

I'm posting this to keep the thread alive. There are people out there that know a lot more about this than I do. I think there were 3 engines of this class rescued from the scrap yard. One goes as pictured and stated, the other two go to the people who rescued the locos. One of those is supposed to go to Portsmouth VA to a fledgeling museum after a COSMETIC restoration.
Please, someone, help us here.
Tommy

That is not even the engines "tender." That "tender" is only one of Norfolk & Western's water bottles.
