Steam & Excursion > 844 across NebraskaDate: 11/17/10 13:11 844 across Nebraska Author: 86235 I've just returned home to London this evening following a highly successful week chasing trains across Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska but the highlight was seeing 844 on Sunday. Here she is making 80 mph past Brownson, west of Sidney with the support train. About half a dozen cars were pacing her along Highway 30, hopefully the Nebraska highway patrol was turning a blind eye. This was my first experience of North American standard gauge steam on home turf, it was exhilarating.

However, she probably was doing more like 70 to 75 MPH, NOT 80. Date: 11/17/10 14:14 Re: 844 across Nebraska Author: CPRR Thank you for the new desktop pic. She is great!

Date: 11/17/10 17:32 Re: 844 across Nebraska Author: cozephyr Glad you enjoyed your States visit. You caught Steve Lee on his last steam run - proudly putting that Northern through her paces! Could you share a few more of your images on this posting?
Come back again and check out Colorado narrow gauge - you'll never forget it. Cheers! Date: 11/17/10 18:54 Re: 844 across Nebraska Author: UPTRAIN That's what I love about shooting 844 in Nebraska (or Colorado, or Kansas for that matter). It's running right where it belongs--home rails. With all the mergers and difficulties routing steam over home rails today (example: SP 4449 on the Burlington Racetrack near Chicago), it's flat out awesome to see steam on the same rail it was built to run on.

Drew Mitchem Centralia, WA Date: 11/17/10 21:43 Re: 844 across Nebraska Author: jerryheng Tremendous photo, Nick! There's a certain desolation and loneliness to this, coupled with the gray sky in the background, that makes this shot sing to me.
I hope you have more to share. If not, well, thanks for posting! - Jerry Date: 11/18/10 00:30 Re: 844 across Nebraska Author: 86235 Thanks, glad you like it, it was pretty cold up there on that overpass, I think the picture captures that. I do have plenty more pictures which I'll be processing over the next few days, I'll post a link. We did the Joint Line, Raton Pass, Moffat Tunnel, Sherman Hill, street running through Fort Collins and the GWR. Plenty of sunshine and snow!
