Is the 844 too long to turn on the Redondo turntable?

the turntable at Redondo can take up to the length of a 2900...844 would do just fine...

Do you mean ATSF 3751? If you are referring to the 3751, then no its not too long for the Redondo Turntable in Los Angeles, but UP 844? I don't the 844 has even been in LA since 1989, and even then I don't think it used Redondo.

No, I meant UP 844

When 844 went to LA in 1989, they turned it on the wye at Hobart. No need to use the table at Redondo, which isn't on UP, anyway.

They did the 3985 there last time it was here

Maybe John is working out logistics for renting or chartering the 844... (maybe someone has a big birthday coming up, and the party car at Traveltown just won't do.)

No, we turned at Hobart Tower both in 1989 with and in 2000 with 3985.

Did 3985 turn near Pedley-Mira Loma CA around 1989-1992 also?
I was at track side there.

Yes, on the Pacific Limited trip in 1994 it turned there at least once, on the Saturday night after returning from Barstow. I was inside the train tidying up and we went sooooo slow around they wye that I recall not even being able to tell we were moving. I have a video of it that Jeff Asay shot from the ground as he walked along the train while it was wyed. It's amazing the Challenger didn't go on the ground. I'm sure the rails there were groaning.
