N&W J on PRR
Author: 5-String

I read a couple sentences about the Pennsylvania testing out an N&W J and doing some fast running on the Fort Wayne Division "racetrack" back in the 50s.

I remembered this old thread http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?10,2723264,2725109#msg-2725109 and thought maybe a J did go up the Valley Line to Hagerstown on the way?

Very interesting story about the Pennsy T-1's in the latest Classic Trains' Steam Glory No.3.

Covers many trials and tests, but they were just too good and were replaced by diesels on the day they were out shopped.

For the tests you mention (between Ft. Wayne and Chicago), it seems much more likely that the J was handed over to PRR at Columbus, then run north to Bucyrus.
