Steam & Excursion > Sierra Railroad #3 makes a rare trip to Sonora.Date: 12/02/12 19:13 Sierra Railroad #3 makes a rare trip to Sonora. Author: msharps See this post regarding the occassion:
http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?10,2927259 #1265 (RS-4-TC) pulled the consist up the hill first and then #3 followed shortly after running tender first. #3 coupled onto the consist in Sonora and then stopped in front of the Post Office on Hospital Road where the old depot used to stand. From what I understand, it has been 20+ years since #3 has been to Sonora. The weather was pretty dismal so I decided on black & white. I have many more photos of this event including #1265 on my website here: http://railtown1897.sharpsphotography.com/sonora 1) #3 stands ready at the Jamestown depot for the trip up the hill to Sonora. 2) Need someone to ID this individual for caption 3) Crossing Campo Seco Road (West crossing) as spectators record the rare event with cameras and camcorders. Date: 12/02/12 19:14 Re: Sierra Railroad #3 makes a rare trip to Sonora. Author: msharps 4) Heading up the hill East of Railway Ln.
5) Crossing Campo Seco again and headed for the highway 108 overpass. 6) #3 rounds the corner and rolls onto the highway 108 overpass. Date: 12/02/12 19:15 Re: Sierra Railroad #3 makes a rare trip to Sonora. Author: msharps 7) Crossings Washington Street.

Even have grain. Date: 12/03/12 16:49 Re: Sierra Railroad #3 makes a rare trip to Sonora. Author: SierraRail That photo #9, taken in the Sonora Cut, is fantastic!
Date: 12/04/12 00:05 Re: Sierra Railroad #3 makes a rare trip to Sonora. Author: lwilton A couple of questions from one who is far away and doesn't know:
1. I assume they backed all the way because there is nothing left in the area where they can turn any equipment? 2. Is the train a static display in front of the PO, or will it be moving at all? I've seen a number of references to this move here on TO, but I haven't seen anything that describes why it was done. Date: 12/04/12 14:53 Re: Sierra Railroad #3 makes a rare trip to Sonora. The train was on static display in front of the post office from 5p-8p and then returned to Jamestown. This post answers the "why it was done": http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?10,2927259 |
