Steam & Excursion > Sierra Railroad #3 makes a rare trip to Sonora.

#1265 (RS-4-TC) pulled the consist up the hill first and then #3 followed shortly after running tender first. #3 coupled onto the consist in Sonora and then stopped in front of the Post Office on Hospital Road where the old depot used to stand.

From what I understand, it has been 20+ years since #3 has been to Sonora. The weather was pretty dismal so I decided on black & white.

1) #3 stands ready at the Jamestown depot for the trip up the hill to Sonora.

2) Need someone to ID this individual for caption

3) Crossing Campo Seco Road (West crossing) as spectators record the rare event with cameras and camcorders.

4) Heading up the hill East of Railway Ln.

5) Crossing Campo Seco again and headed for the highway 108 overpass.

6) #3 rounds the corner and rolls onto the highway 108 overpass.

8) #3 in front of the post office where the old depot used to stand.

9) #3 couples onto the consist that was pulled by #1265 just East of the post office.

I can usually tell fake B/W ( not film), but these are as good as the real stuff. Even have grain.

That photo #9, taken in the Sonora Cut, is fantastic!

A couple of questions from one who is far away and doesn't know:

1. I assume they backed all the way because there is nothing left in the area where they can turn any equipment?
2. Is the train a static display in front of the PO, or will it be moving at all? I've seen a number of references to this move here on TO, but I haven't seen anything that describes why it was done.

Correct.
