Urban Steam, Tacoma WA

Every once in a while the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad brings an engine down to Tacoma to celebrate various occasions. Polson #70 made such a trip in 2011, seen here on a run up the Tacoma Hill (ex-Milw).

Polson #70 is a sweet engine. If you have not seen her, you need to at Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad. Polson 70 is the "Queen of the Mountain."

With all those visible rivets on the boiler I wonder if there is no insulation and outside jacketing?

This was one of the first runs after the restoration. The jacketing came later.

I wanted to include video of this engine heading up the canyon from Tacoma in the NRHS Convention Video so I spent two days
getting various angles of #70 blasting up the canyon and the bark of the engine was just marvelous. I have ridden behind
her at Mt. Rainier Scenic RR and she really puts on a great show there too. We are definitely fortunate to have this "old
beauty" running in our backyard here in Washington.

The crews have given #70 a name. What is it?

Hint : Think Muppets.

Well, one MRSR employee gave the #70 a name and it seems to have stuck (regardless of my opinion on the matter). Since she's a soaker, the crews call her "Miss Piggy." She definitely snorts good and loud, that's for sure. There's wonderful irony here, too, but I won't go into my high school misadventures.
