Steam & Excursion > Here Is One Last Blast Of Steam In Winter A Day Before Spring!

Many of us have suffered through what we believe was one of the longest and worst winters in many years here in the Pacific Northwest. In honor of the first day of spring arriving tomorrow which means today is the last day of winter, here is a final photo of Steam in winter to enjoy.

Built in February 1937 as part of Southern Pacific's AC-7 Class of Cab-Forward engines #4159 was captured on Donner Pass early in here operating career by the SP company photographer in this dramatic winter image.  The cold mountain air catches the exhaust of this steam powered beast giving testament to steam railroading in the winter.

Let's say a fond goodbye to old man winter.

Bet the photog ran like hell after making the wonderful exposure.

Why would you need to run?????    They're not plowing any snow. Doesn't look like they're blowing down. The cylinder cocks appear to be closed.

Running from what, vapors?

I agree any crap stirred up along with even  a little wind would about freeze one to the bone.

GREAT picture and I second your motion....just about finished my ark building......no water worries this summer in western oregon or northern california..........

Wow!  What a spectactular photo.  It must have been really cold to condense that much steam vapor right out of the stack!
