Work stopped on WMSR #1309?
Author: HotWater

Just read on another forum, that since a $400,000 grant from the stat has not come through, yet, all work has been stopped on #1309. Somebody care to elaborate here?

While I hope this isn't true I wouldn't find it to be surprising. The wheels in government turn excruciatingly slow sometimes.

Too bad no one has the inside "coal scoop." Based on the number of page views, this subject matter seems to have garnered a lot of interest.

Someone posted on another forum, that a "faceplant" posting today (April 20, 2017) indicates that they are now "hoping for fall 2017".

The only post I have found I have copied. Notice it is dated ONE year ago today. There is no mention of a delay on the Western Scenic Maryland Facebook page.

There's a ticket ad floating around for a first ride in like November, as I remember,
maybe optimistic, maybe not.

Well back in January they announced excursions with 1309 starting July 1st. It's going to be a big PR hit if that's not the case

Has anyone called them up to ask about this?

(HotWater: don't answer ;-) )

I think this is when they were "hoping" for fall of 2016. I noticed this page hasn't been updated in a while.

Regardless of what is going on with 1309 it is clear that they need a good communications director. There is clearly an appetite for information without a source to get it. IMHO the 2926 group has done an excellent job in this department.

Glad I decided not to send them the 500 bucks they wanted for reservations for the TRAINS Magazine photo special in October... === === = === JLH

Some more "additional information": Reportedly the General Manager at WMSR, Mr. John Garner, has stated that once the funding has been received from the state of Maryland, there is about "6 weeks of work left to do, once they get started.". Such a forecast seems pretty odd, to me anyway, especially since all the finished drivers are still sitting on the ground.
