Steam & Excursion > UP 844 over Sherman HillDate: 04/19/17 18:55 UP 844 over Sherman Hill Author: 757guy Yesterday, 4/18, marked UP 844’s first scheduled excursion for the season, heading west as the Boise Turn Special. Despite hazy skies, it was a great day for chasing the train and capturing some photos between Cheyenne and Laramie over Sherman Hill, something I have hoped to do for a long time. Even more, it was a good distraction from the surgery I was having later yesterday afternoon (which went well, thankfully). Chasing 844 in the morning and in the operating room in the afternoon…that was a full day! Hope you enjoy the photos in the posts below.
1. UP 844 with several excursion cars in tow works its way upgrade out of Cheyenne alongside Otto Road. Many vehicles were pacing the train at this point. 2. UP 844 throttles up as it works upgrade. 3. UP 844 pulls the excursion train past the truck stop along I-80, just before Harriman Road. More to follow... 5. UP 844 works uphill toward the Hermosa tunnels near Dale Junction with the mountains of Wyoming and Colorado serving as a backdrop. 6. On the way back toward Denver, I caught this southbound BNSF manifest on the Front Range Sub approaching Road 92 near the “town” of Norfolk, CO.
