It's hard to believe but just 100 years ago yesterday this fine old locomotive began her 3rd and final career.

Built by Baldwin in 1882 this fine 4-4-0 was originally owned by the Northern Pacific RR as their #99. She worked many good years for the NP before they sold her to the Sierra Ry of California for service on that Mother Lode shortline as their #4.

It was on April 20, 1917 that the Sierra Ry sold #4 to one of their largest shippers, the West Side Lumber Co. to serve as the standard gauge mill switcher for that company. While 4-4-0's were not often seen in service on Western logging railroads, #14, as she was lettered on the WS was very useful on the flat mill yard track in Tuolumne, CA.

In 1925 when the West Side was first purchased by Pickering Lumber of nearby Standard, California #14 was then lettered for this new owner.

By 1935 when Pickering sold the West Side back to her old owners, #14 was no longer in service and was parked across the mill pond awaiting the call back to duty that would never come. We see her here in 1937 just one year before she would be scrapped.
