Steam & Excursion > Ferrocarriles Interoceanico 2-6-0Date: 04/23/17 01:04 Ferrocarriles Interoceanico 2-6-0 Author: MartyBernard Got to love the headlight! The following is Roger Puta's caption to his slide:
NdeM (F.C.I.) Ferrocarriles Interoceanico 2-6-0 #60 narrow gauge switching standard gauge cars in San Lazaro Yard, Mexico City, D.F., Mexico on September 13, 1966. (Yes he fit all that on one side of a slide mount!) Enjoy, Marty Bernard Date: 04/23/17 03:38 Re: Ferrocarriles Interoceanico 2-6-0 Author: kgmontreal Wow.
KG Date: 04/23/17 04:51 Re: Ferrocarriles Interoceanico 2-6-0 Author: PlyWoody I would love to see, but never work to repair, any of those 4-rail turnouts. Also wonder if the locomotive had extended length knuckles account of the different in coupler heights 3' v SG.
Date: 04/23/17 09:02 Re: Ferrocarriles Interoceanico 2-6-0 Author: ATSF1129 I see what appears to be four driving wheels, or is it an illusion?

Date: 04/23/17 09:31 Re: Ferrocarriles Interoceanico 2-6-0 Author: Earlk FCI 60 is indeed a 2-8-0. Built by Schenectady in 1898.
The narrow gauge in Mexico used standard gauge coupler heights, which eased some of the switching issues. I don't now what they did for the coupler centerline offset. Date: 04/23/17 13:43 Re: Ferrocarriles Interoceanico 2-6-0 Author: MaryMcPherson Four rails, narrow gauge riding the center pair, centering issues solved. Look closely and that's what their doing.

half dozen Consols, all in NdeM lettering still working out of there. Out Date: 04/23/17 13:57 Re: Ferrocarriles Interoceanico 2-6-0 Author: Frisco1522 They sure were squat little things. The headlight is nearly as big as the smokebox.
Date: 04/23/17 14:19 Re: Ferrocarriles Interoceanico 2-6-0 Author: nhiwwrr I'm trying to figure out why they had such short stacks on many of their locos....Shorter than cab height.

Interesting photo. Thanks! Date: 04/24/17 10:05 Re: Ferrocarriles Interoceanico 2-6-0 Author: jbwest When did steam end in Mexico? I saw Niagara's out of Valle de Mexico in January 1968, steam on the UdeY (standard and narrow gauge) the same month, and FCI 67 and some NdeM 2-8-0's switching at San Lazaro in May 1968. When did it end?
JBWX Date: 04/24/17 12:59 Re: Ferrocarriles Interoceanico 2-6-0 Author: callum_out Well there was that guy over in Durango switching his lumber yard with a Shay in 1998, that count?
Out Date: 04/24/17 17:32 When did it end? Author: jbwest There was also a tourist operation on a NdeM branch. And some industrial branch off the NdeM ng. (I think to a paper company) that was run privately. Things are never simple. But I wonder when the last "regular" runs or switching shifts (or whatever) were made on the major lines like NdeM and UdeY. Roger's picture reminded me of my train chasing days in Mexico.
JBWX Date: 04/24/17 18:36 Re: When did it end? Author: callum_out John I think you're close on the 1968 date, believe there was a run or two in February 1969 but that's
hearsay, haven't seen any pictures. The paper line was interesting in that NdeM wanted to abandon the NG line that served the paper company and they had other ideas, don't know quite how long that lasted. Out |
