Steam & Excursion > SP AC's in a lite power moveDate: 05/21/17 12:11 SP AC's in a lite power move Author: Barstool The date is June 1955 and Oakland is short of power, so Roseville sends two AC's coupled to fill the gap....4222 and 4228 roll by the cannery in Martinez....1955 was a banner year for the growing season as SP had to change power assignments...F units that were venturing through out the system were moved to Roseville for work on the sierra's....SP had plans not to use steam helpers on the sierra's also, but that changed as steam power stepped forward to fill the gaps.
During 1954 and 1955, Oakland was always running out of road power and there was a steady flow form Roseville to Oakland and this met that as the AC's went back to Roseville, the 4-8-2's and 4-8-4's were filling in....and even 2-10-2's were working the western division, but almost all had no ATS, so they were working with 2-8-0's as lead power....
