IC Makado #1518

A well done job on this IC Mike, by the folks of Paducah KY. On display along the flood wall murals along the Ohio River.
one of many sights to see in Paducah, well worth a visit.

Looks great! My late buddy would have grumbled about the red cab roof. I don't know if the red cab windows are right, but somebody put some good work into it.

Are those mikes the ones that had in excess of 80,000 lbs tractive effort? Seems like I read that somewhere a long time ago.

That thing sure looks good, but it's right alongside a road, without a fence?? If that were in any major city in America, it would be completely destroyed by vandals and thieves within days.

The red roof is actually right. They were painted that way, but usually ended up black from the stack. Don't know about the windows.

Looks like it's ready to go! Got to be one of the best restorations anywhere. Let's hope it stays safe in that location.

The 1800 series Mikes had a tractive effort of a little more than 70,000 pounds. The 1914 built Mikes were direct cousins of the SP MK5's and Union Pacific's MK CLass Mikes. They were all Harrimans.

The more powerful Mikes were the 2100 series, which were rebuilds using the boiler of a Harriman Mike and the modified running gear of a 2-10-2. The 2-10-2 boiler was used for a 2500 series 4-8-2.

Thanks for sharing your photos. Fortunately, the display appears well maintained. It was in god condition when I saw it nine years ago.

What ? No white tires and silver rods ? Looks Great ! Put a fire in it. Hard to believe the headlight glass and number boards aren't rocked out. I hope they protect it.

Nice job on that one, guys.

Window frames should be black, but that is a very small detail in the overall excellent appearance.

For a loco that has been outdoors for 50+ years, that does have to be about the best around.

At least the tires and running boards are black, and no other creative use of white paint (counterweights, ect.).

Looks to me that there's a plate of some sort instead of the windows and the red window frames give the illusion of windows being there - of course it's harder to break glass that doesn't exist :-)
