Steam & Excursion > How Metra and the 765 transformed LaSalle Street Station...

It says as much about Metra and its employees as it does the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society (FWRHS) that we were able to accomplish just about everything we set out to do.

From the schedule, to runbys (and adapting runbys into the station), to serving cocktails and carving out a section of the "new" LaSalle Street Station for our layover, FWRHS was extremely fortunate to have good shepherds at the commuter railroad and cooperative people at every level - chief among them Rob, Tim and Daniel (RRBadTrack and metra6924 on TO, respectively.)

The railroad even indulged us when the idea came up to changing the platform signs where the layover took place! Amusingly, we had many onlookers ask if the 765 and train was "the one going to New York!")

The video you posted on Facebook this morning of the 2am run into LaSalle Street was fantastic

Thank you! Just had to get it down to manageable size for TO...

Very early on the Saturday morning before the first trip, we took the 765 up to LaSalle Street to confirm clearances and determine a stopping point so the engine and train could be properly posed for our event photographer who was capturing portraits of passengers with the 765.11

As the locomotive's iconic Mars Light sought out a path ahead, the 765 slipped past skyscrapers into downtown Chicago around 2AM last Saturday morning.

A dress rehearsal for the next day's trip, the visit turned into something more...

Kelly, that's just fantastic. People actually wanted to ride the 20th Century Limited again! You guys and gals do such fine work.

And Kelly, it was an incredible weekend! We made history and re-lived it at the same time.

Actually, I would prefer to ride the Nickle Plate Limited, with my sleeper delivering me to Hoboken on the Lackawanna the next morning!
