Does anyone have any up to date news about the fate of the EBT, the doings and whereabouts of "Slippery" Salone, etc.?

EBT commonly means Electronic Benefits Transfer.

Although I am still scratching my head trying to figure out what the OP here on TO means by ""slippery" salone" since going agooling returns no matches unless he is somehow referring to something about a furniture fair in Milan.

Out here on the West Coast, EBT stood for East6 Bay Transit, the Streetcar System in the Oakland CA area.

Reference is to the gentlemen who acquired the three rail yards and the first couple miles of the EBT. The
yard portion was going to serve an industrial park and since no one has heard whether or not this actually
happened I can only assume that no one knows where this place is and has no idea how to get there.

If you don't know what EBT stands for, then you need to catch up on your railroad history. I guess it shows that time does indeed march on when people don't recognize the legendary East Broad Top.

More like people having fun with a topic that is constantly brought up ala PRR 1361.

No it means that people need to put their arrogance and ego aside and quit assuming that everyone else will know immediantly exactly what they are referring to when using acronyms or initials. Yes, some are widely and popularly known. But most are not. Like I said, I even did a Google search of EBT and the railroad that no longer exists East Broad Top was not included in the results. I had honestly thought PRR1361 was trying to talk about some person with the referrence to slippery salone.

I couldn't agree more.

No, I'm saying that back in the 60's and 70's when you said EBT in railroad circles, most people knew that meant the East Broad Top. Just because you google something and get no results on it doesn't mean it wasn't important. A lot of things that mattered then have been forgotten today. Today we live in a disposable society, and unfortunately that includes our history, too. It's not being arrogant. I thought the responses were in jest at first. Now, I'm wondering where the arrogance really lies...

Hang on a minute - the comment about people needing to catch up on railroad history means you've kind of given up the right to accuse other people of arrogance in this thread. Back in the 60's and 70's.....you think people today who weren't around back then should automatically know everything about that era?! Do you know everything about every aspect of railway history going back to the dawn of railways?!

The arrogance is in your expectation that everyone will know what went on in the 60's and 70's. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the history of the railroad East Broad Top is not included history that is taught in schools across the United States.

Besides, NOBODY said it was not important.

Maybe I was mistaken, but it seemed like it was implied that if it wasn't in google, it didn't count. I imagine that there's quite a bit of railroad history that isn't taught in schools, either. I believe arrogance is in the eye of the beholder. What was assumed by the original poster turned out to be incorrect; that does not make him arrogant, or anyone who tries to defend him. The first thing I learned when I started on the railroad was what happens when you assume. It gets proven over and over. Have a good one...

Yes you were absolutly mistaken. The point was the I had no idea of what he was referring to, I humbled myself to do a Google search to figure out what he was talking about, but that search still did not revel any answer. Meaning by using an acrynom or intials not comonly known TODAY, how the H were we to know what he was talking about?

> I believe arrogance is in the eye of the

Well, I guess that explains your responces.  Claiming that arrogance is in the eye of the beyold is in itself sign of arrogance.

> What was assumed by the original poster

Well, the original poster asked a 2 part question. So I really do not see where he made an assumption other than expecting everyone to know what EBT and slipery salone meant. But now that I know what EBT is I can go back and reread his 2 part question, of which the first part is it no longer exists and the second part, well still do not really understand what that was asking about.

So why were you assuming? My whole point was that we can not just ASSUME, we need to understand what was being asked. The original poster is the one that assumed that we would know what he was asking about. You made an assumption that it was up to everyone else to know about railroad history from the 60's and 70's.

Re: EBT

With the context that this is a railroad forum, if you searched google for "EBT train" or "EBT railroad" or "EBT steam" or "EBT locomotive" or perhaps other word combinations beyond simply "EBT" then you would perhaps quickly see that it almost certainly means "East Broad Top" based on the preponderance of search results referencing the East Broad Top Railroad. Remember, we're in the Steam & Excursion forum on Trainorders and referencing EBT or most other acronyms here PROBABLY has something to do with trains, especially steam.
