Steam & Excursion > 4449: Nobody told me about the echosDate: 06/25/17 21:44 4449: Nobody told me about the echos Author: railstiesballast I was trackside to see and photograph the train this evening at Washougal and it "exceeded expectations".
After passing the farm crossing with a full whistle sequence, there were five more crossings in the next 3 miles. Each one gave us a clear crossing whistle signal plus wonderful echos from the trees and hills. He was making about 60-65 passing us about one mile east of 32nd street. "Us" included local photographers and a young couple whose son already knew this was the engine that pulls his "Santa Train" in Portland. I started waiting about 615 PM and at 630 a track inspector stopped at the crossing to turn his truck around. He said I had at least an hour more to wait and he was fine with where I was parked and was going to shoot. Two westbound freights, a grain and an oil unit train came by before the 4449. Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen. Date: 06/25/17 22:09 Re: 4449: Nobody told me about the echos Author: LoggerHogger I must confess that my whistle did sound pretty good.
