We traveled to West Virginia this past weekend for a NARCOA speeder excursion on the West Virginia Central out of Elkins. On Friday, several of us took advantage of the opportunity to ride the Cass Scenic to Bald Knob. Here are a few photos of the run.

1-Shay No. 5 ready to depart with the first train of the day to Whittaker Station.

2 & 3-No 5's running gear.

13-Above Whittaker Station, view from one of several overlooks

14-The Cass Scenic is now operated by the Durbin & Greenbrier, which operates the Cheat Salamander from Elkins to the connector from Spruce to this junction. The two trains meet allowing for the transfer of passengers and the delivery of box lunches to the Balk Know train. it is possible to ticket through from Elkins to Cass, stay overnight and return to Elkins the following day. It's on my bucket list.

15-Another overlook

Thanks for the pictures. Cass is a great place to visit! So they only were using #2 to Bald Knob? Usually, they have two Shays, or just the "Big 6."
