Goodnight, 3751 (fixed)
Author: kurt765

The night photo session at Redondo Junction tonight was really fantastic. Before I go to bed I thought I'd share a little iPhone video I shot right at the end as she leaves the turntable to be drained and put to bed, probably to never fire up again for an event or trip until after the 1472 inspection is completed. I loved the little conversation with the passing diesel train. It was a great way to end.

Thank you to the 3751 crew and to our Amtrak host for making this amazing opportunity possible.

-K

Anybody else having trouble getting the video to play? I get an error message saying the video is not a "supported type." It was definitely nice to see the 3751 again, though, and to finally meet Norm Orfall in person on the Tioga Pass. I didn't get to the night photo session, but just seeing the engine back out of the station in the late afternoon light was a treat.

Doesn't it need a diesel to help it along? So, the group have the funds for the 1472?

That was a poignant whistle/horn exchange.

Yes, it really was.

Kurt ---
thank is a really, really nice video! I am
so glad you were there and recorded this --
those of us who could not be there can see
and hear the 3751 before she goes to sleep
during her Form 4 / 1472-day inspection and
recertification. I am so glad you captured
that wonderful horn salute by that freight
train's engineer and the 3751's reply. That
was very special! And it still amazes me how
good smart phone photos and videos can be.
You did very well with this video, sir!

Evan --
That is a superb photo of the wonderful 3751
on her way back home. Very well done! And
I am very glad you got to go to the Train Fest
and got to meet Norm Orfall in person at last.

tc --
That is a wonderful photo of the great 3751!
You also did very well photographing her on her
way back home.

Best wishes to all the folks in the 3751 group
on the 3751's Form 4! May it go well and smoothly.

Farewell, Santa Fe 3751, until you awaken again!

That was a UP Train so it was a UP engineer . :)

The light reflection kinda makes it look orange. But if it was yellow then it was a UP engine.

Thanks for fixing the video - love that exchange of horn/whistle salutes. The lead unit on the freight is a UP ES44AC with the flag decal on the side. The second unit is a UP SD70M with graffiti on the side.

It was a UP train about to turn into the Alameda Corridor trench. This is looking south and the BNSF main is further away at this particular spot. At the end of the video you can see bridge on the right side behind the passing UP stacks where the BNSF main crosses E. Washington Blvd to join into the Corridor. At least I'm guessing that's the ownership of those two mains since all night there were UP stacks on the foreground tracks and BNSF on the bridge :)

Last night, I talked with the engineer that was on the double stack train. He thought it was pretty cool that the 3751 crew whistled back at him.-BMT

Wow!,great video, love that horn/whistle exchange!. Hope 1472 goes well!...Still remember that (professional) video, plus the stories of 3751 Steam Blasting the old diesel soot from top of the tunnels in Tehachapi years ago!
