ATSF #2921 has arrived at the Modesto Amtrak depot
Author: lynnpowell

Ex-Santa Fe 4-8-4 #2921 has been moved from Beard Brook Park in Modesto (CA) to a site beside the Modesto Amtrak station. This morning the locomotive is still aboard the very heavy duty moving rig. The next move is to place it on a short section of display track. It appears that the locomotive will be facing north, toward the depot. I wish that they would turn it so that it faces the south, into the sun.....better for photography that way! The huge eight-axle tender should follow in a week or ten days.

Thanks for posting this!...Funny how much bigger or "out of scale" the locomotive looks, compared to the surrounding trucks and huge moving equipment!

Somebody in a Facebook post said the wheels would not turn. They figured the bearings were rusted up from flood damage. Plus, they had to torch cut the drawbar to separate it from the tender. The engine has been under flood water several times over the years. Wonder if the bearings might have survived this enough to roll, and maybe it's just stuck piston rings? Would stuck rings seize tight enough to lock it up ?
