Steam locomotive Soo Line 1003 to attend charity event for Shriners Hospital for Children® Chicago

Soo Line 1003, a 103 year old steam locomotive, will be making a special appearance on August 12th from 2:15 pm to 4:30 pm at the Galewood Metra station (2031 N. Narragansett Avenue, Chicago, IL.) to benefit the Shriners Hospital for Children® Chicago. The Soo Line 1003 is one of only a few steam locomotives still operating in the United States. The locomotive and two cabooses will be on display to allow people the opportunity to tour and learn about the equipment. There is no cost for the event, but any donations received will benefit the Shriners Hospital for Children® Chicago and the Steam Locomotive Heritage Association (Soo Line 1003). Both organizations are 501 C (3) charities.

The Soo Line 1003 is making the 200 mile journey from its home base in Hartford, WI. to Chicago, IL. through the generous cooperation of the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad (Watco) and Metra.

Please join us on August 12th to experience a bygone era and to brighten the day for some deserving children. Please note, because of the age of the historic equipment, the train is NOT ADA compliant and wheel chair accessible.

I can't say for certain, but this may be the first time Soo 1003 has been to Chicago. It's a good trip for a great cause. I'll be there!
