Steam & Excursion > 765 Joliet Rocket Stack TalkDate: 08/15/17 09:46 765 Joliet Rocket Stack Talk Author: PatternOfFailure I managed to get trackside for Sunday's runs of the Joliet Rocket. For both the morning run and the evening deadhead I chose the Wabash overpass at New Lenox for my vantage point -- a nice straight-away with minimal fan presence, at least for the evening run. Opening shot, 765 is passing the Illinois Institute of Technology along the Dan Ryan Expressway.

I noticed that is named Will County which includes the City of Joliet. What's the connection of the number? The 765 flew the W all weekend too. Arghh! I can't believe that I (a long-suffering Cubs fan) didn't catch that! That is indeed a nice touch. That was the low point of the weekend for me, since I am a Cleveland fan! :) Awesome hearing that beautiful exhaust! Thank you for reminding me what a great weekend that was. Correction 765 only had the "W" flags on Saturday complete morning trip and the first have of Saturdays second trip. They were removed at at the station during the layover Posted from Android Date: 08/16/17 21:03 Re: 765 Joliet Rocket Stack Talk Author: aronco I was riding on the platform of TIOGA PASS most of the way from Joliet to Chicago on the final Sunday night trip. The stack talk was beautiful and very sharp. I tried to get a video with my smart phone but had to quit after a few minutes as the cinders were burning the skin on my arm.
This was still the finest steam trip I have experienced since I worked on steam in 1960 on the Magam Arizona Railroad at Superior, Arizona. Yup, I'm that old! Norm Norman Orfall Helendale, CA TIOGA PASS, a private railcar |
