Next Month - History Will Repeat Itself Again 53 Years Later!
Author: LoggerHogger

Back in March of 1964 when my old friend Ron Harr shot this image of Rayonier #90 being towed dead-in-train over Big Baldwin Trestle on the Southern Pacific's Tillamook Branch headed for Garibaldi, Oregon, he certainly must have felt that this was a once-in-a-lifetime event. Well, we are about to prove Ron wrong.

While the method of transportation will be by truck rather than by rail, next month yet another former Rayonier Baldwin 2-8-2 logging lokie will start it's journey to Garibaldi, Oregon. This time, unlike with #90, the Rayonier Mike will not go to Garibaldi to sit on display but it will actually be pressed into service.

Late next month, Skip Lichter's 70-ton Rayonier #2 (former Saginaw Timber #2 and Polson Logging #2) will start it's journey back West from Wisconsin to it's new home on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad.

I am sure if Ron were still with us he would be the first to say he was glad to be wrong about his photo being a one-time event!

Martin

Ron generously donated his collection of photos and artifacts to the Sumpter Valley Railroad Restoration on his passing a few years ago

It will be great to see her back in the Pacific northwest.

Wow, what a shot Martin and thanks for posting! Great to see this old color photo taken from an SD9. Looking forward to the new arrival and hopefully, they will not letter it for Espee.

Very funny Scott. #90 is still owned by the Lyons who bought her from Rayonier in 1962. They are responable fof the SP lettering she has today.

We will have #2 lettered as Saginaw Timber, the name of her first owner. Here is a shot of her new cistern that we will install in her when she arrives.

I hiked that part of the abandoned line about 5-6 years ago. The trestle was still in pretty decent shape.
