765 question (sort of)
Author: CPRR

Where the 765 lives at Ft. Wayne, I google mapped with satellite view. The home seems to be in a large former industrial area, with pads now, but lots of through sidings between the building sites. What was here in the past?
Just curious.

PS good luck with the downtown new location. How soon would that be ready?

Casad Industrial Park used to be a military supply depot that was serviced by the Nickel Plate, Wabash and US Army Transportation Corps. Everything from surplus Army vehicles, passenger cars, POW transfers, weapons, explosives, chemicals saw the depot at one time or another. It's now also largely a brownfield, though some of it is now privately occupied. There was a transloading customer on site for a while, but they've moved on. The government-owned remainder will likely be acquired by the City of New Haven in the near future.

Some additional reading: https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/facility/new-haven.htm

FWRHS only owns the 15 acres of what you see in the fence around our property and technically does not even own the railroad or switch connected to the general railroad system, but because we're taking the 765 out and about and run our caboose trips over the quarter mile of track, we usually shoulder the burden of maintaining it.

All the more reason to make the Edgerton Road site a long-term storage/work site and relocate operations elsewhere. We're about 70% of the way through property acquisition discussions with the railroad and some private land owners for right-of-way development in order to reach the proposed development site in downtown Fort Wayne: http://headwatersjunction.com. Once that happens, the real fundraising and development can begin.
