You Had To Remind Yourself This Was A City When This Train Came!
Author: LoggerHogger

Some places in the West derive their names from earlier times when prosperity was more abundant than we see in later years. Here is just one such place.

Virginia & Truckee #26 and her short excursion train has just arrived a Washoe City when this photograph was taken. Yes, this place once was large enough to have the term "city" as it's designation. As you can see times have certainly changed in Washoe City by the time this lonely train stopped to pay a visit.

In the distance is the Washoe Canyon that the train has just traversed before passing the ruins of some of cities former stately buildings. In just another year the V&T would be no more and her rails here removed for all time.

That would leave Washoe City with one less claim to her former fame.

Thanks, Martin. So this train is northbound, headed toward Reno?

As the author, William Heat-Moon, once said, "Any settlement with the word 'City' in it's name, most assuredly, is not".
