C&TSRR = Big Horn "Y"
Author: Wacky-roger1942

Over the years I have been asked numerous times about the Big Horn "Y". We got there early the other day so I did a drone look of the "Y".

Thanks for another view of the railroad. The last time I was westbound on the train and the Conductor asked me "What is unique about this wye?" and I said "It has curves in it!"
He said "You are so right sir! A Winner!" Another fantastic video!

Unusually long tail track. Did it use to go somewhere?

I was told they needed it long to get long trains out of the way of other trains.

It was used on the Monday RGS Charter to back in and clear the WB passenger train.

The Y was used when the eastbound train was longer than the Big Horn siding. The train went up the Y and westbound ran through the Big Horn siding to clear it.

Wye is used today because the Big Horn siding is long out of service.

Another nice one! The drone view works really well for a location like this. It gives the best perspective to someone who has not visited there, yet!

Thanks as always for sharing,
