Steam & Excursion > An Unscheduled Photo FreightDate: 09/20/17 10:19 An Unscheduled Photo Freight Author: MaryMcPherson Friday afternoon they had Southern Railway #401 good and hot by the time we got up to Monticello, Illinois.
Everything was being prepped for Railroad Days at the museum, and that included making sure the locomotive was good to go following some light repairs. To make sure everything was seated and adjusted properly, we were surprised to learn #401 was going to stretch her legs for a bit to get the steam chest good and hot. Better yet, they were going to stick a short freight consist behind her. It was unscheduled, and might have even been unplanned, but we suddenly found ourselves pretty much the sole spectators to an impromptu photo freight with steam on the point. Enjoy!
