425’s Loco bell set to ring continuously....while underway... Nice safety awareness attempt.

Old joke: Fireman to Engineer: “You ran-over a cow!”
Engineer to fireman: “ How do you know???!!”
Fireman : “ I can here her bell ringing !!!!!”

Wes, why does this sound like a dig??? From what I see, the bell was only on when approaching and/or passing through grade crossings. Just doing what we're required to do.

Just my observation from videos...just my opinion, my impression and my guess.

Seemed to me the pacing video had the bell going all the time...

On a happier note, I applaud the restoration and operation of the 425; that whole operation seems well run and professionally supervised and operated..
Open window coaches are vitally important... That helps the paying customers enjoy the trips — sealed, air conditioned, cars are disappointing, sterile and boring....
Thanks for the open windows .....PLUS , you can hear the bell, loud & clear..
Keep up the good work,..

I eagerly await the return of 2102 to Reading Rails...that will be fun...

And yes, ring the bell merrily...it’s very clear sounding, and in a classic rocking yoke...

I apologize for any slight that was felt by my statement.

Not problem Wes. The problem with reading something is you can't hear the tone of voice behind it. Leads to a lot of misunderstanding.

A good part of that pacing video was coming through Nesquehoning were there is a big fire engine manufacturing plant along the tracks with many road and pedestrian crossings. So, we just tend to leave the bell on going through there. There other part is due to the loudness of the exhaust we sometimes just forget it's on cause we can't hear the damn thing ringing! Lol

You must come see us in person sometime Wes.

Not uncommon. We, i.e. Doyle, has had the same issue with the bell on SP 4449. The bell is mounted forward, under the smokebox, and thus can NOT be heard from the cab when on the road. Eventually an "ON" "OFF" was painted on the little bell valve, so that a quick glance shows what position the valve is in, which tends to help a bit.

Not hearing the bell is very common, Steam, Dismals & electrics....

It’s very typical pattern, even “back in the the day “, and a true hold-over from the days of steam.....

It’s still a beautiful little Pacific...well, cared for —— I appreciate it when crews take pride in appearance of steam locos, white walls, and all...

Congratulations...open widow coaches are a true, paying-crowd pleaser — ticket holders deserve more than sealed Air-conditioned, stainless tubes for coaches...
It’s a very wise to continue the operation of these open coaches...

Wes .

( Yes, I fully intend to visit one of my ‘babies’, RDG. 2102 ....I’ll contact you when the calendar becomes more clear..)

What's the story with the tower....little I could find if it....I'm assuming the R & N built it.... replica of the one that stood there?...what's it's future use?

Looks awesome. Great video Ed!

Built this year by the R&N. The Reading Company never had a tower here. It is a carbon copy of the former PRR "J" tower from Lemoyne, Pa. which is restored and now at Strasburg, Pa. This tower currently serves as the R&N's "Outer Station."
