Steam & Excursion > A look back at "The Wanderer"Date: 11/11/17 11:14 A look back at "The Wanderer" Author: bandob "The Wanderer" was a 4-4-0 that pulled the special train of the two secret service agents in the TV series, "The Wild, Wild, West." (1965-1969) The movie version, which came out in 1999, was, INMHO, less than memorable. But, starring as "The Wanderer" was the B&O Museum's 4-4-0, The William Mason. After filming, the locomotive returned to the museum and operated for a time in the classy green and gold livery.
Here's some looks back during All Aboard Days in April, 1999. Those were some good times.

LOL B&OB Date: 11/13/17 15:48 Re: A look back at "The Wanderer" Author: Goalieman As soon as I saw “The Wanderer”, I knew this thread dealt with the locomotive in “The Wild Wild West”. What a great engine and incredible TV series!! In the very first episode, Jim West looks at the general and says, “You’re giving me the train”. BTW, your “humble opinion” about the 1999 movie is the very accurate. Hopefully, someone like Christopher Nolan with a penchant for realism will see fit to make another WWW movie in the future.

Here's a photo of its fire- and weather-ravaged remains at Old Tucson Studios, Arizona, in December 2015. I wish there was some way for NSRM to acquire it and bring it to Carson City.

The 'Reno' was also used in the 1999 film also, having been trucked into New Mexico to stand in for the 119 in a scene in the latter half of the movie. |
