Steam & Excursion > From This Angle You Can Actually See Into The Belly Of the Beast!Date: 11/20/17 03:01 From This Angle You Can Actually See Into The Belly Of the Beast! Author: LoggerHogger It was on a rainy Sunday in October 1957 and Pickering Lumber Corp. 3-truck Heisler #5 has been chosen as motive power for a railfan excursion from Standard to Ralph and back. Here we see her crossing Black Oak Trestle on the Sierra Railroad as she heads upgrade.
Our photographer has positioned himself at the base of the trestle for this dramatic angle. In doing so he was able to capture the roaring fire in #5's firebox through the open front damper. Had he been shooting black & white film, this effect would likely not have been picked up. Today #5 is part of the PLA collection on their Niles Canyon Ry. Martin Edited 3 time(s). it was great that the photographer used color film for this superb shot, and that the crew had #5's damper open then. |
