Posing, Dressed In Your FInest, With One Dirty Steam Locomotive!
Author: LoggerHogger

We can only hope that the dirt worn by this logging lokie did not jump off it and on to the pretty dresses of these 3 ladies.

The ladies in the photo may be friends or relatives of Joe Bean of Lowell, Oregon who took the photo. We can only guess that the young boys likely live in the town of Westfir, Oregon where this photo was taken.

The date is the mid-1940's. Edward Hines Lumber Company now owns and operates the old Westfir Lumber Co. railroad and logging operation. This big Baldwin 2-6-2 was built in 1922 for the California-Oregon Lumber Co. as their #5. She later moved to Westfir and became #12 on that roster.

Behind the engine we see some of the disconnect trucks that the line was famous for using. Also shown in this photo is the rarely seen enginehouse used to repair the logging company's roster of lokies that also included at the time a Baldwin 2-6-2T and a 3-truck Willamette.

Posing with steam locomotives was always a popular pastime back in the day, no matter how dirty the engine was.

Recall the days of getting Levis with longer legs and rolling up the cuffs until I grew into them.
Rolling-up cuffs seems to be coming back among the Millenials who probably think they invented it...
Nicer than the the idiotic style of wearing jeans with holes cut in them - when we wore them that way it was because our folks could not afford to buy new ones or Mom
hadn't had time to patch them with material from even more worn-out jeans...
