Here Is One Railroad That Railfans Continue To Hold Out Hope For!
Author: LoggerHogger

The last 25 years have not been kind to the Northwestern Pacific Railroad of Northern California. This scenic line has been plagued by the ravages of mother nature as well as a number of ownership changes that left her broken and in pieces. All of this is unfortunate for this line was once the darling of railfans because of it's scenic beauty and wonderful motive power.

Stan Borden was once such railfan that spent considerable time capturing on film images of the NWP in it's steam powered heyday. Here is one of his images that serves to remind us what we once had when the NWP operated all the way to it's northern terminus at Eureka, California.

While we will never again see NWP #170 leading a string of 40-foot box cars on the line as seen here, we can only hope that one day the rail line of the once-proud NWP can be reopened to serve the communities on her northern end once again.

There is so much detail in this photo from the car on the left to what looks like the remains of where an old bridge crossed the water on the right.
Thanks for sharing these daily glimpses into the past.

Martin, this one is great!
Is this near 101 between Arcata and Eureka? The old ROW on the right makes me think this is near Bracut.
