Steam & Excursion > CPR #1201Date: 02/11/18 15:38 CPR #1201 Author: 4489 CPR Pacific #1201 used to run day trips around the Ottawa area for years.
Occasionally she was unleashed on the main line's of the CNR and CPR. One such occasion was a weekend trip to Montreal, QC. She was "home" for the weekend, running on the CPR, as she was built by the CPR at Angus Shops. Here we see her after turning on the loop at The Glen, CPR's Montreal coach yard. (Westmount, QC) Date would have been sometimes in the 1980's. Perhaps someone can nail the date. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/11/18 17:07 by 4489. Here's a link a brochure for 1201's final excursions in September and October 1990. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-S1XLDjcLCas/UuxCbOaKbmI/AAAAAAAANqY/KvGI8iCY83s/s1600/blog1201folder.jpg I rode on the October 14 Ottawa - Hawkesbury trip. I believe this was the last steam excursion open to the general public on a Canadian National line. Date: 02/12/18 17:18 Re: CPR #1201 Author: 4489 Thanks for posting the flyer. Brings back some memories.
Always wanted a to ride behind 1201 on the mainline. Got the chance as we had a few chartered cars on a Montreal-Ottawa train which were then transferred to 1201's train waiting at Ottawa train. Destination was Pembroke. However 1201 failed about 30 minutes after leaving Ottawa and the trip was annulled. Sigh! |
