Steam & Excursion > CPR #1201 returns to Ottawa

The next day from my previous CPR #1201 posting.

Sunday afternoon finds us at CPR commuter service Lachine Station. This station was at 40th Ave. Lachine. The present Lachine Station is now a few blocks west, 48th Ave. Was renamed from Grovehill. #1201 is heading back to Ottawa.

I remember riding her cab around The Glen in February 1960. Later photographing her in fan trip service. I haven't heard anything about her in nearly 20 years. What ever happened to her?

I assume "preserved" means to never run again.

She needed a rebuild. Many times heard promises that this would be done. However........................

Instead the Ottawa to Wakefield tourist service was relaunched with, gasp, Swedish rolling stock and Steam locomotive. IMHO it looked terrible.

#1201 is still inside at the Museum, not on public view, which just reopened after being closed for several years.

Closed? Why? Those are the folks whom we purchased CP 2839 from.

Short answer was that the building had issues. It was touch and go as to whether the museum was to be reopened. Thankfully the work was done and they are back in business.

I was not aware that the Ottawa museum had two Royal Hudson's in their collection. #2858 is in the museum on display. I was always under the impression that #2839 was owned by the Government of Ontario. One learns something every day.
