Author: valmont Date: 02/14/18 07:45 Re: Silenced Steamers (2 SOO, 1 WP) but where? Author: CPR_4000 Looks like the Soo Mike has a booster? First time I can remember seeing a booster on a fabricated trailing truck.

The location data for the museum in memory of Addison Laflin, who always so described the museum in his writings for what was then Bay Area Electric Railway Museum.

Author: Frisco1522 I don't think that's a booster line, looks more like some kind of Feedwater heater line. Great photos, even if they are dead engines. Would be a help to modelers on how to properly weather a steam locomotive.

I don't see evidence of a feedwater heater, but there is a big, fat (insulated?) line running to the check valve. Could it be an exhaust steam injector, sort of like the Rutland Mountains had? I think that's it: Soo 1003 has it, too: http://78.media.tumblr.com/818c3f6244838b50113a344f032076fa/tumblr_msw6apGZqN1s4agmuo1_1280.jpg Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/14/18 09:52 by CPR_4000. A nice device. -LD Date: 02/14/18 17:12 Re: Silenced Steamers (2 SOO, 1 WP) but where? Author: ironmtn A guess on number 2 from the hills in the background: at Houghton, Michigan. Nice little engine, as was the case for so much Soo Line steam.

Author: hawkinsun Photo # 1 looks like the same location as another photo I've seen of #459 at Gladstone, Michigan. I think I saw it there as well, when I was a kid. I might have a photo of it too, buried in my dad's stuff.
