Steam & Excursion > Return of WP&Z #1 to service delayedDate: 05/25/18 04:37 Return of WP&Z #1 to service delayed Author: Jim700 As posted four weeks ago ( https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?10,4540441,4540441#msg-4540441 ) the Oregon Zoo's Washington Park & Zoo Railway Oregon Centennial steamer "Oregon" was expected to return to service tomorrow for the Memorial Day weekend. Unfortunately its reassembly has been delayed. The cylinders (pictured on a pallet) were returned by an outside contractor about a month ago but some parts are still out. We're hoping it will be finished in time for the Saturday, June 9th 60th birthday party of the zoo railway and the GM Aerotrain-modeled Zooliner but it's possible that it may be delayed until Father's Day weekend.
A brief history of the 2½' gauge railway may be viewed on the Oregon Zoo website at https://www.oregonzoo.org/visit/washington-park-and-zoo-railway/history-railway. Edited 2 time(s). Faster progress could be made if the zoo would decide to make more use of the eight temps to run the daily Zooliner and let the two full-timers concentrate on the steamer's reassembly.
