This scene was captured on film in May, 1941 in Sonora, California. The cameraman is riding on an early excursion on the Sierra Railroad on a train bound for Standard, California. The country is finally coming out of the Depression and people have time and money for trips such as this. The presence of dirt streets, older cars and buildings that show little updating demonstrate still how hard those past economic times had been. For now the photographer has caught the optimism of the nation on this piece of film. Unfortunately, this would all too soon disappear as the Country was forced to go to war just a few months later.
