Steam & Excursion > She Shows The Dirt & Grime Of A Hard Working Steam Locomotive!Date: 10/11/18 01:14 She Shows The Dirt & Grime Of A Hard Working Steam Locomotive! Author: LoggerHogger Among the many aspects of steam motive power that sets them apart from their diesel successors was the ability of a steam locomotive to show the effects of her years of service simply by the patina she developed between washing's or paint job. We see plenty of the patina in this photo.
Parked outside the huge wooden shops at Ryderwood, Washington in 1950 is Long-Bell 2-8-2T #803. She shows all the heavy weathering produced by years of hard logging service in the woods with only occasional shopping back at Ryderwood. Had it not been for a recent application of paint on her cab it would be impossible to know what road number she was. Her Long-Bell name on her tanks has long ago disappeared under the layer of dirt and grime so common to a working steam locomotive. She wears white flags for her trips over the common carrier Longview Portland & Northern that connects Ryderwood to the outside world. One begins t wonder if the white flags are the only part of her that gets an occasional washing. Martin Edited 4 time(s). Last edit at 10/11/18 01:24 by LoggerHogger. |
