C&O steam tenders - from the Cardinal
Author: gcm

One of the more interesting aspects of different railroads was their roster of work equipment.
From heavyweight cars, troop sleepers, ancient tank cars etc.
On the C&O they still had steam tenders in work service around 25 years after their steam engines had been retired.
Here are a couple from the dirty windows of the Cardinal (June 1981).

(1) I did not note where these were at but T-162 looks to be in excellent condition.

(2-3) Rusty rails in this yard with a troop sleeper and heavyweight car to go along with tender 95.

Maybe the TO steam experts know what steam engines types originally went with these tenders.

I can't remember the last time I saw a steam locomotive tender for MOW. It's been that long.
Thanks for reminding me of these pieces of the past.

Thanks for posting these interesting photos.
I have both ridden and railfanned the C&O, but
unfortunately did not takes any photos of their
tenders in mw service.  A lot of railroads had
repurposed mw equipment.

You were on the right side with camera ready at the right moment,  Neat find back then,  Just a swag   Clifton Forge, Hinton, Huntington?   That really narrows it down.

I've seen photos of Mikes and 2-6-6-2's with this sort of tender.

I think #2 and #3 were taken in what was left of Stevens Yard in Silver Grove KY, just upstream on the Ohio River from Cincinnati.  The rustyrails reflect the closure of Stevens Yard and relocation of facilties to Queensgate in Cincinnati.
