Steam & Excursion > Denver & Rio Grande movieDate: 10/16/18 08:25 Denver & Rio Grande movie Author: CPRR Watch this classic and wondering what happened to the two ng locomotives 268, 319 used in the movie. Filmed on the Durango & Silverton trackage.
Thx in advance Date: 10/16/18 08:47 Re: Denver & Rio Grande movie Author: CPRR Um they crashed them in the end.
Date: 10/16/18 08:50 Re: Denver & Rio Grande movie Author: ATSF1129 Both the 319 and the "268" were scrapped after the staged wreck for the climax of the movie.
Now, the Real 268 is still on display at the Gunnison Pioneer Museum. The one used in the colision was the D&RGW 345 renumbered to "268" as shown by Martin Hansen here... I guess in the early 50s nobody thought about that.

Probably used these locos because they were either no longer needed, or were due for extensive repairs, or most likely both. |
