A fairly common occurance climbing the hill.  Early in the morning, the cool air up on Cumbres Pass settles down the valley creating a wind out of the north.  As the morning progresses, the air at the lower elevation warms, rises and creates a breeze from the south, like this.   At least you avoided the tail wind that perfectly matches the speed of the train creating a traveling cloud cover.  The engine crew likes working in the shade, but the photographers aren't too happy.
