Author: LoggerHogger The scenery surrounding all railroads was definitely not created equally. There were some railroads that operated in this countries most spectacular mountain regions where the grandeur of their surroundings was breath taking. The Denver & Rio Grande was just such a railroad.
The D&RG sported some impressive steam power in August 1947 when this portrait of 2-8-8-2 #3406 was taken in the yards at Helper, Utah. I guess there were plenty of water towers on the lines.

Know Martin has the answer for that. Boyd in Chiloquin where the weather is doing something...............wet.

It would have been an impressive display. Like how the California State Railroad Museum did that with the SP 1 (4-2-4) and the SP 4294 (4-8-8-2).

They were figuring on the money from the scrap value of the locomotives to pay the bills. Helper, UT is still a fun place to visit and enjoy the trains surrounded by great scenery.
